Sarah Kruger

Sarah is a regulatory and litigation lawyer with particular experience in the technology, media, communications and music sectors. She has over 20 years’ experience in top tier multinational law firms and senior media industry roles. Sarah has worked in private legal practice in Sydney, London and Washington DC.

Sarah’s areas of focus include:

  • Government consultations and legislative reform. Sarah has extensive experience in drafting submissions to Government consultation processes, giving evidence before Parliamentary Committees and working with government and regulators, particularly the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) and the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC). Sarah has a deep understanding of legislative reform processes and provides practical and strategic advice to clients on their interactions with policy makers and regulators. 
  • AI and collective bargaining. Sarah assists clients in navigating the regulatory implications of AI in their businesses, including competition issues and collective bargaining authorisations. Sarah advised a group of 18 Australian media businesses and obtained a collective authorisation for the group to bargain under the News Media Bargaining Code. Before joining Quay Law Partners, Sarah was a member of the Australian Government’s Copyright and AI Reference Group, run by the Attorney General’s Department. 
  • Regulatory advice, compliance and investigations. Sarah advises clients on regulatory compliance and investigations, particularly under the Competition and Consumer Act, Broadcasting Services Act, Radiocommunications Act, Copyright Act and Privacy Act. Sarah has particular expertise in content, ad tech, digital and broadcast regulation, as well as extensive experience in interacting with the ACMA and ACCC. Sarah has advised clients on available review mechanisms for government and regulator decisions, including a High Court case into the constitutional validity of a provision in the Copyright Act. 
  • Copyright and litigation. Sarah advises clients on copyright and has run copyright infringement programs for global tech companies across Australia, Europe and Africa. Sarah has deep experience in Copyright Tribunal litigation in Australia, acting for both applicants and respondents across a range of industries.

Sarah holds BA (Hons) and MA degrees from the University of Cambridge, UK. She is admitted to practice as a lawyer in Australia, England and Wales.
