Cate Cloudsdale has joined QLP from Free TV Australia, the peak industry body for Australian’s free-to-air commercial broadcasters, where she was responsible for regulatory affairs. Her background includes data protection, information law, administrative law, media and the arts.
Cate has held a variety of roles at the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) including as Director of the Privacy Determinations team, where she assisted the Privacy Commissioner to make findings and provide outcomes in relation to breaches of the Australian Privacy Principles. In her most recent role at the OAIC, as Director in the Major Investigations team, Cate led the investigation into a significant incident notified under the Notable Data Breaches Scheme. Prior to that, Cate provided advice to the Commissioner and her officers as part of the OAIC’s Legal Services team.
Cate has broad experience as a government lawyer, having worked in dispute resolution, legal services and policy at a number of Commonwealth agencies, including the former Department of Communications and the Arts.
Cate is a member of the NSW Law Society’s Privacy and Data Law Committee.
